Regulatory frameworks
WAM frameworks exist at the international, regional and national levels. bicc engages at all three levels, to ensure that national stakeholder priorities are reflected at the regional and international levels and that international and regional best-practice is adapted at the national and community levels.
International frameworks relating to weapons and ammunition management aim at establishing a best-practice baseline which can guide regional and national practice.
Arms Control in Africa
Regional actors are mandated to strengthen WAM processes across the continent of Africa. Successive bicc projects have supported the African Union (AU) Commission, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Regional Centre for Small Arms (RECSA) in strengthening and aligning regional instruments, as well as operationalise their components at the national levels.
The following guide shows the WAM related instruments each AU Member State is a party to: Clicking on a country will show membership(s) in regional organisations as well as treaties and instruments adhered to. You can superpose regional organisations with regional and international treaties and instruments.
